Naked Biopic truth of Yves St. Laurent Hedonistic Life featured at Cannes Film Festival.

It might come as a surprise in a film about a deceased fashion designer who spent vast amounts of his life thinking about couture, but one of the most, if not the most, memorable scenes in the new biopic, Saint Laurent, shows a young Yves Saint Laurent completely naked as he walks towards his partner, Pierre Bergé (clad in a black satin dressing gown that reveals his tanned behind), before the young lovers jump on the bed for a romp. Despite the provocative nature of this and other racy sex scenes in the film, which was directed by Bertrand Bonello (of Le Pornographe fame) and premiered at the Festival de Cannes on Saturday, the real controversy surrounding the production has to do with the clothing. What else!

Early on, the Bonello production incurred the wrath of Saint Laurent’s long-term partner Pierre Bergé, who threatened in WWD to sue the film if it copied any of the designer’s outfits—a bit hard to avoid when making a coming-of-age movie about YSL’s life and work.  The filmmakers, on their part, have accused Bergé of distributing letters to parties associated with the film to try to stop it. To this end, Bergé has refused to allow Bonello’s team to consult the brand’s archives. He also publically endorsed another biopic, Yves Saint Laurent, which debuted in January and was directed by Jalil Lespert. The Fondation Pierre Bergé-Yves Saint Laurent lent the rival film a reported 77 vintage outfits and Bergé helped conduct a scene depicting the legendary 1976 Ballet Russes fashion show. The resulting headlines in the French press declared war between the two films.

2: Manolo Blahnik and Sarah Jessica Parker’s Shoe Line Will Be Officially Revealed IN THE FLESH @ New York Fashion Week.

A shoe collaboration made in heaven, quite possibly even crafted by little fashion industry cherubs, will surely be the toast of the town. We’re talking of course about Manolo Blahnik pairing up with SJP. Although we’ve already seen the full collection pics online, this is the chance to try ‘em out for real. The actress has famously long been a fan of the designer’s stilettos since her days as Carrie in Sex and the City, so expect snaking queues of superfans when they launch in a pop up shop in Nordstrom on March 2.

As the obvious minimalist I am, I couldn’t help it but fall heedlessly in love with David Koma’s latest collection. Searching up every single piece of clothing he’s ever made, I am now convinced that he may or may not be my current favorite designer.
His creations reminds of less war ready and more sophisticated and pastel-ish ancient Japanese armors.

One thing I have to say about Derek Lam’s runway show was the shoes…. oh my gosh the shoes!!!! I instantly fell in love with all of them! Derek Lam decided to go a different route this year and not follow the rest of the designers with monochromatic looks, instead, he went with prints.

New York Fashion Week Spring 2014: What to expect

Just as you’re trotting out your fall wardrobe, Fashion Week hits NYC with hundreds of designers putting out their visions for — yes — Spring 2014. The shows start Thursday and run through Sept. 12, with the major fashion hub at Lincoln Center, where some 75 designers will strut their stuff in the tents at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. But many others are heading downtown, with Jason Wu abandoning the former church on the Upper East Side for a spot all the way down on Mercer Street. Even Calvin Klein is moving his gig to the brand new Spring Studios in TriBeCa, having shown in its garment center headquarters for five years. Night birds are flying into daytime slots — the fellows at Proenza Schouler are showing at noon instead of 8 p.m., and Tommy Hilfiger trades his evening show for an 11 a.m.-er at Pier 94. Change is good, right? But the schedule is crazy and it’s a headache getting from show to show for sure — so much so that clever Advil is providing free Fashion Week transport in a red-stiletto emblazoned SUV.

Pinterest is becoming a major player in NYC’s Fashion Week.Today the social imaging network followed up on its exclusive for the J. Crew catalog by announcing a Pinterest Fashion Week hub, appearing at pinterest.com/fashionweek, where designers, brands, and style experts from the event will post exclusively on the show and upcoming fashion trends. Brand Innovators Fashion Brands Summit is also scheduled for Sept. 13, at the end of NYC Fashion Week.

Costume: Actresses Jane Fonda & Minka Kelly Transform Into American Icons for ‘The Butler’

From sketch to real life, Jane Fonda evokes former first lady Nancy Reagan (The Weinstein Company)

“Lee Daniels’ The Butler” spans eight decades and depicts a spectrum of characters that could make any costume designer’s head spin: from a rural African-American field worker (portrayed by Mariah Carey) to a boozy-yet-stylish ’50s lady (Oprah Winfrey — whose character traverses all of the film’s decades as the wife of longtime White House butler Cecil Gaines) to iconic first ladies including Nancy Reagan (Jane Fonda) and Jacqueline Kennedy (Minka Kelly).

From Fonda to Reagan
In the film, 75-year-old Fonda is in close replicas to the real clothing of ’80s-era Nancy Reagan. “She loved red,” Ruth Carter, costume designer for “The Butler,” told Yahoo! Movies of Reagan. “A very vibrant tomato red — coined as ‘Reagan Red,’” said Carter, who mimicked the designs of Reagan’s favorite designers, including Bill Blass. Carter even replicated a gown Reagan wore to a state dinner.

It’s not only the clothes, but Fonda’s hair — which was coincidentally already in the right cut to play Reagan — and her makeup transformed the Oscar winner into a convincing facsimile of the former first lady.

But that doesn’t mean there wasn’t any drama in assuming the role. Fonda managed to avoid a wardrobe catastrophe, Carter recalled, on her first day of filming: one of Fonda’s costumes went missing — and she was only scheduled to shoot for a few short days. “I was walking on pins and needles.” But Fonda made it work, swapping a costume intended for another scene while she waited for the missing outfit to arrive (and it did, as a frantic Carter actually flew it in). For Minka Kelly to pull it off as the stylish Mrs. Kennedy, Carter knew she had to pay attention to detail. “My main focus was to make sure the pink Chanel suit she wears when the [JFK] assassination happens is perfect,” said the costume designer. “Of course we want Jackie Kennedy’s look to be as iconic as it was in real life.” — >
