Today: 15:30 Reclaim To Wear x Central Saint Martins
There’s an injection of new blood at London Fashion Week’s Estethica this season, showcasing the best in eco fashion. From Somewhere’s Orsola de Castro, who is also creative director of Reclaim To Wear, an organization that labels up cycled capsule collections, has been working with students of second years students from Central Saint Martins. Ten teams have been using the fashion industry’s surplus such as stock, remnants and off-cuts to create a catwalk piece and two “commercial” pieces. The work of two teams stands out: Third Collective’s bold collages of texture and color, Angstrom’s knitted shoes. Amazing what you can do with a few scraps, and food for thought in these cash strapped times when young designers could be making more use of the industry’s excess fabrics and trims. A selection of the students’ collections and films can be seen at reclaimtowear.com. – Tamsin Blanchard, style director, Telegraph Magazine.

09:00 And we’re off! London Fashion Week autumn/winter 2012 takes the baton from New York and kicks off this morning with a show by LFW veterans Antoni & Alison.
“There is fantastic talent as always, and the international audience is looking very strong,” Caroline Rush, the elegant CEO of the British Fashion Council told AP .
She cited Stella McCartney, holding her first stand-alone show in London since she graduated, and McQ, the second line from the Alexander McQueen fashion house led by Sarah Burton.  “There is great excitement about McQ because of Sarah Burton’s success dressing Katherine Middleton for the royal wedding last year,” Rush said.
Rush said British heritage brands like Belstaff – also showing in London for the first time – and the return of regulars like Burberry, Christopher Kane, Erdem and Paul Smith should guarantee big crowds and motivated buyers. “There should be a lot to hold people’s interest,” she said.
