2012 Women at SAG Awards

Screen Actors Guild Awards – The Women & their Designers

Like the Golden Globes last week, Hollywood turned out yesterday at the Shrine Auditorium for the SAG (-ing) awards ceremonies. Everyone present brought some glamour while gearing up for the big one, The Academy Awards. On the Red Carpet, the arrivals witnessed some extraordinary SAG Fashions and some SAG-eek fashions. Let’s just wait to find out today, which one of our girls made the worst dressed list, DARN. Of course there was the lovely Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt (couple of the Year), Diane Lane, Emily Blunt, Emilia Clarke, Diane Kruger, Emilia Clarke, Jessica Chastain, Natalie Portman, Kate Winslet, Katy Perry, Kaley Cuoco, Kyra Sedgwick, Reese Witherspoon, Meryl Streep,  Jessica Lange, Viola Davis (Lead Role winner), Octavia Spencer, Jullianna Marguilles, Julie Bowen and the list goes on and on. We saw a  Dresses from Badgley Mischka, Zac Posen, Ralph Lauren, Carolina Herrera, Chanel, Alexander McQueen, Elie Saab, some a red Valentino gown, Versace, Tom Ford and others. The Men weren’t looking too shabby either. Christopher Plummer, Guy Pearce, George Clooney, Stephen Colbert and a few others kinda stood out. So. Let’s us all sit back and wait for the usual media thrashing of the celebs. It’s always good for a few laughs. Don’t feel bad guys, one day we’ll get our chance at thrashing them as well, after all, there just a bunch of wannabees anyway. It’s just a matter of time before someone comes up with that list. Congratulations to the winners of awards season, 2012.. – – follow more ©My Dress. My High Heels. My Style

Concept Korea IV - Spring 2012 Concept Korea IV - Spring 2012

Korean fashion design has slowly made an inroad into New York, and it all started with the Concept Korea designer collectives that began four seasons ago.  Some designers from past seasons, such as Son Jung Wan and Parkchoonmoo, now have solo shows as part of the official Fall 2012 Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week schedule.  Others are veterans of other Fashion Weeks around the world, such as the duo of Steve J. and Yoni P. who showed at the London Spring 2010 collections. For its fourth edition, Concept Korea featured the following designers in a presentation style: Son Jung Wan (who also held her second New York solo runway show later in the week), Lie Sang Bong, Steve J. and Yoni P., Doho, and Resurrection by Juyoung.  Although an understandably mixed bag in terms of aesthetics and styling with five very different design sensibilities, the collective represented South Korea’s continuing evolution in the world of fashion.  Lie Sang Bong used psychedelic shimmering neon space age cuts inspired by traditional Korean fashion, with killer matching fan clutches.  Doho chose a more ethereal route, with asymmetrical layered piles of tulle and other fabrics dominating.  Juyoung presented the only men’s collection of the five, combining color with semi-formal dress shirts.  Son Jung Wan chose to exhibit some additional looks that were not a part of her solo runway show; her commercially appealing womenswear is much better suited to this presentation format than on the catwalk.  Finally, Steve J. and Yoni P. channeled the ‘70s with their capsule collection, with flower power prints and tie-dyed dresses. – – © Story By Yuan-Kwan Chan

Milan Fashion Week Begins with | ‘Urban Menswear’

John Varvatos Fall/Winter 2012

Urban Rock–Designer John Varvatos spins a tale of the streets and rock for the fall/winter 2012 season in his runway show. Male Models were Embodying a certain harshness in comparison to last season’s romantic laments, Varvatos taps into an element of youth. Bringing together garments in an almost reckless fashion, the mood is relaxed and the results more exciting. While laceless boots barely come to a close, oversize outerwear in various hues of gray bring comfort to knits as well as other pieces, tattered and stained. Featuring tall men in a wardrobe that possesses the potential to be both tidy and fantastically disheveled, John Varvatos dismisses the aspect of age for a collection that evolves with a little smarts in Milan fashion.  – – more Pics | ©ourtesy of  ‘theFashionisto.com

Miss Piggy ‘stylin’ for Premiere

Miss Piggy: A style icon for 2012

For last night’s UK premiere of the Muppets Movie, Miss Piggy stepped out in a silver leather dress made especially for her by British designer Giles Deacon

Miss Piggy wears giles deacon coutureMiss Piggy is fast becoming the style icon du jour – obviously, she never looks less than the true embodiment of perfection, but recently she has raised her fashion game to a whole new stratosphere. Out on the red carpet to promote her latest starring role in the Muppets Movie [Kermit: Hey, the rest of us are in it too!] the best-dressed pig in town wore a bespoke creation by Giles Deacon. It’s a fitting match: Miss Piggy is obviously the shiniest, most dazzling [Kermit: Keep going with the compliments, you’re going to have to lay it on a bit thicker than that…] most effervescent star on the planet, and Giles Deacon is an incendiary talent in the London design scene. One of the leading lights of London Fashion Week, Giles’ Spring/Summer 2012 collection featured silver laser-cut leather dresses, which served as the basic inspiration for Miss Piggy’s red carpet look. Of course, her dress was far superior to his standard catwalk designs – her shimmering silver fringed frock was the talk of the city [handbag.com: Do you reckon that’s enough? Kermit: Yup, that should just about do it.] Don’t know if Jim Henson expected his muppets to be such icons. But. We ALL know and love Miss Piggy for many reasons. My favorite is her fashion doll looks. – – ©Handbag.com |

Versailles ’73 Black Supermodels

Introduced ©By Audrey J. Bernard

versaillesBold, Beautiful and Black models are reunited at the special luncheon at The Metropolitan Museum of Art: Amina Warsuma, Norma Jean Darden, Pat Cleveland, fashion designer Stephen Burrows, Charlene Dash, Alva Chinn, China Machado, Billie Blair, and Bethann Hardison. ——————-

Back in 1973, The Palace of Versailles played host to a fundraiser orchestrated by American fashion publicist Eleanor Lambert and Palace of Versailles curator Gerald Van der Kemp to raise money to restore the aging structure to provide exposure for American fashion. The time was right to introduce and celebrate some of the hottest Black Models of the Day like the ones so featured. French Fashion Designers as well as Italian Designers have long featured minority models for their shows. Myself and several other Models, walked the Runways of Pitti Palace in Florence, Italy 1969 for Valentino’sBlack on Black’ Fashion Show, with creations by Silvano Malta. It was an ALL Black cast of Models with Everyone wearing Designs that were in the Color Black. It was Wonderful. These Shows showcased the Beauty of All People to the Industry as well as The Public. It paved the way for today’s successful Black Models and other Minorities as well who work constantly without having to worry about being typecast. People like Naomi Campbell, Iman, Tyra Banks, Alek Wek and so many more, have these Women, like the Versailles bunch, to thank for helping to make the job of Modeling a little easier and friendly. It’s the same way Josephine Baker made show business more receptive for many other minorities of the times. Even before the models mentioned above walked the Runways, French Designers like Christian Dior, Jean Patou, Ungaro, Pierre Cardin and a few more, hired Women of Color to walk in their Catwalk shows. Now, it is very much mainstream for fashion shows to be filled with  Models of different cultures. In the 70s, particularly, Henri Bendel featured Stephen Burrows clothes, exclusively. He remains innovative to Fashion as Marc Jacobs, Tom Ford, Carolina Herrera, Ann Klein, Tracy Reese, Nicole Miller, Donna Karan, Bill Blass, Prabal Gurung are today. All of these fashion designers represent American Fashion, worldwide. French fashion designers somewhat rely of America for setting the trends. France Fashion Catwalk shows in Paris, many times, reflect many American Signature styles. New York Fashion Week is an example of Haute Couture and American Sportswear for the masses. Like Europe’s Pret-a-porter, American clothes is marketed with the intention of clothes being affordable. Fashion events like Fashion Week New York City, FW London, FW Paris, FW Milan and others is a prime example of the American Fashion industry‘s impact on the rest of the World. – – Find out more
