PARIS, France — Ahh, Paris. The spiritual home of fashion where the wonderful diversity of creative ideas and fashion dreams comes together in a veritable cornucopia of collections that close off fashion month. We’ve selected ten fashion moments from the Paris Autumn/Winter 2012 collections in Paris, with photos by Morgan O’Donovan, whose camera was focused on all the goings on backstage — before, during and after the shows.

Patmos who revealed its fall 2012 eco-fashion collection on Thursday. ©Emma Grady says: “I think everything in the collection is something you can wear right now,” Patmos told TreeHugger. “That’s the goal really, to find something new that you just want to buy because you don’t have that exact thing but want a new, unique version of it.”

Globe Style’s Amy Verner has packed up from Paris and landed in New York to cover Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. The third day of shows presented an eclectic mix of fabrics, feminine silhouettes and foreign influences

Anyone with an encyclopedic fashion memory or a love for designer Phoebe Philo will recognize this rounded shoulder-full sleeve-belted waist combo from the Celine Spring 2012 collection (hers, an updated nod to Balenciaga and Christian Dior). And Som’s execution is strong – minus the filmy organza skirt.(Richard Drew / AP)

One designer’s “merlot” is another’s “plum.” Add Peter Som to the list of labels showing this rich wine-y hue for next fall. Here, it stands out as stiff wool melton outerwear fashion.

No doubt a great amount of time and skill went into making this fox patchwork coat. Which is why pieces like these should not be saved for special occasions. Why not wear it to the grocery store! Or for watching hockey practice!

• Som tends to introduce at least one new print to each collection. Last season, it was magnified rose blossoms in Technicolor. For this collection, it is the “mineral” print as it appears on a wool cropped jacket and day dress.

Fashion week styles though mixed in with many foreign influences, has a freshness that American fashion designers are known for. Marc Jacobs and other fashion designers like Peter Som, know how to capture those feelings that every fashion savvy woman is looking for. Haute Couture remains the fashion world of French fashion. No prom dresses here. Just pure creative direction Paris fashion. John Galliano found “guilty” of making anti-Semitic slurs

Flamboyant fashion designer John Galliano was found guilty Thursday on charges of making anti-Semitic comments against at least three people in a Paris cafe.The French court gave him a suspended fine of 6,000 euros ($8,415) but he was not sentenced to jail time. The plaintiffs were awarded one symbolic euro each. Aurelien Hamelle, Galliano’s lawyer, told CNN he was not surprised by the verdict. He said the designer was happy it was all over and wants to put the whole episode behind him. Galliano was not present at the trial because he didn’t want to face the media, his lawyer added. The designer could have faced up to six months in jail and a fine of 22,500 euros ($32,410), prosecutors said before the verdict.

Sequins and Crystals; a Red-Carpet Preview?

PARIS: Twice a year, during the haute couture collections, the French fashion industry contemplates an existential crisis: Is the tradition of hand-made dresses and suits costing hundreds of thousands of dollars still relevant?

Couture week in Paris—now whittled down to a mere three days—offered several ripostes this week, from fashion as art at Christian Dior to luxury jeans at Chanel and one-of-a-kind ostrich feather miniskirts from newcomer Maxime Simoëns.

Couture week raises the spectacle of runway shows to its highest form. This season, the catwalks were awash in sequins, pearls, crystals and even snaps embroidered on dresses. A chaste theme of minimal bare skin and below-the-knee looks ran throughout.

A New Wave of Color

There was also plenty of color, from hot pink at Gaultier Paris to ruby red at Armani Privé—a penchant that could herald a rainbow of hues on the Oscars‘ red carpet.
